Cardiovascular Surgery Associates, “CVSA” is committed to putting you and your family at ease. The staff at CVSA understands the importance of family involvement. Whenever possible, surgeries are scheduled with advanced notice so that relatives can make any necessary arrangements. During surgical procedures, a nurse will meet with family members to keep them informed of your progress.
Our objective is to make your cardiac or thoracic surgical procedure as uneventful and comfortable for you as possible. We accomplish this by making you a fully informed partner in your care.
Our Team
The Cardiothoracic Surgeons at “CVSA” work together as a team. Our team consists of over 25 highly trained and skilled physician assistants, perfusionists, surgical technician, nurse practitioners and support staff. The average professional has been with “CVSA” for over 15 years. Our entire team is familiar with all of our hospitalized patients. Before, during and after your surgery you will be seen by various members of our team.
Cardiac Physician’s Assistants (PA or PA-C) are licensed by the state of WI and must be certified. Because of the close working relationship with the surgeon, the PA will see patient’s preoperatively for physical exams, and help with other tasks. The Physician Assistants most important function is to assist the Physician in surgery and function as the surgeons other set of hands.
Cardiopulmonary Perfusionists (CCP-LP) is a certified, and licensed professional by the state of WI, trained to operate the heart/lung machine during open-heart surgery. During this time the perfusionist does everything to optimize heart muscle preservation and blood conservation.
Surgical Assistants (CST) Surgical assistants are certified professionals. The surgical assistant stands opposite the surgeon and functions also as the surgeons other set of hands. The surgical assistant often anticipates the surgeons needs without any direction.
Cardiothoracic Nurses (CNS or NP) Our nurses are board certified, and come from years of experience in the critical care environment. The nurses provide patient care under the supervision of our cardiac surgeons. They specialize in pre and postoperative management of the surgical patients. The nurses are the liasons for the surgeons, patients,their families, consulting and primary care physicians
Support Staff: Our support staff is very knowledgeable and here to assist you during your pre and postoperative period. We have a staff that will help you in coordinating a consultation appointment, insurance verification, precertification, scheduling a surgical date and time that will work with you and your family needs. Our support staff will try to make your hospital experience as easy on you as possible to help ensure your peace of mind.
