Atrial Fibrilation
The physicians at CVSA pioneered arrhythmia surgery in Wisconsin. Atrial fibrillation is a common irregularity of heart rhythm. This rhythm generally requires dailly anticoagulation with a common blood thinner called Coumadin or warfarin. Within the past few years surgical techniques have been developed to treat this chronic condition, this procedure is known as an ablation or MAZE.
The MAZE procedure may be performed in combination with other open heart surgery procedures for people with chronic atrial fibrillation. There is an exciting new minimally invasive technique now available to patients who need treatment for their atrial fibrillation, but do not otherwise require surgery.
